The Boardwalk Art Show & Festival on June 15-18th is one of the oldest and best outdoor fine art shows on the Eastern Seaboard. Produced by the Contemporary Art Center, it is ranked as one of the top 15 fine art shows in the country by Sunshine Artist Magazine. This four-day festival features fine art, great shopping, and live entertainment for the entire family.


 

Dance to the beat of salsa, merengue, mambo, and bachata tunes presented by some of the best national, regional and local acts. June 9-10, Virginia Beach creates its own “Calle Ocho” – direct from Miami – filling the oceanfront with the sights, sounds, and smells of Latin fun, music, and food! Highlights are the Juego Del Barrio Domino Championship and the Salsa Dance Competition, where contestants vie for cash prizes. 9:30 – 12:00 am -- Absolute Beginner Hammered Dulcimer Workshop. $35. Call 496-3779 to register. This is the class for people with no experience who want to try something new. Come to the workshop and learn about the hammered dulcimer and how to play it. If you do not have a dulcimer, one will be provided for the class (depending on class size you may have to share). The hammered dulcimer is a musical instrument with strings stretched over a trapezoidal sounding board. The hammered dulcimer derives its name from the small mallets, called hammers, that players use to strike the strings. Workshop instructors Philip and Pam Boulding create the distinctive music of Magical Strings, described by The Washington Post as “warm, graceful and sonically gorgeous.”
