The following information can help you prepare and make the most of your experience
at the Sandbridge Beach.
  • Directions

    To Sandbridge from I-264 East: Take exit 22 (Birdneck Road) and turn right onto Birdneck Road. Follow Birdneck for about 3 miles and then turn right onto General Booth Blvd. Follow General Booth for approximately 4 miles then turn left on Princess Anne Road. Stay straight (past Upton Drive) onto Sandbridge Road. In approximately 5-6 miles, this will dead end at the beach in Sandbridge.


    From Sandbridge to the Resort Area: Follow Sandfiddler Road to Sandbridge Road and turn west. Stay straight onto Princess Anne Road. Turn right on General Booth Blvd. Follow past the Virginia Aquarium. Once you cross the bridge at Rudee Inlet, the road becomes Pacific Avenue and you are in the resort area.   • Lifeguards

    Lifeguards are on duty from 9:30 am to dusk daily from mid-May to mid-September at the Sandbridge public beach area, Sandbridge community beach area and Little Island beach.

  • Parking

    Municipal parking lots are located near Sandbridge Market at the corner of Sandbridge Road and Sandfiddler Road. The lots charge a fee between Memorial Day and Labor Day. The maximum fee is $5 per day. Parking is also available at Little Island Park.


    Little Island Park: This large public beach area at the southend of Sandbridge (south of 3600 block) provides a great place to spend your fun-filled vacation days. The park features lifeguards, covered picnic areas with grills, bath houses/showers, lighted tennis courts, basketball court, children’s playground, and even a fishing pier. Pier open 5:30 a.m. – 11 p.m. (757) 426-7200

  • Restrooms

    Public restrooms are available at Little Island Park and just south of Sandbridge Market.

  • Regulations

    Fires of any kind are not permitted on the beach.


    Glass containers and alcoholic beverages are not permitted on the beach.


    Pets are only permitted on the public beaches after 6:00 p.m. and before 10:00 a.m. from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Airtight containers for cleanup must be carried and used at all times.


    Surfing restrictions are enforced from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day weekend. Surfers must wear a leash and surfing is prohibited within 30 feet of the shoreline. Surfing is permitted all day Monday-Thursday. Surfing is not permitted between the hours of 11am and 4pm Friday-Sunday.

  • Accessibility

    A beach wheelchair is available at Little Island Park on a first come, first serve basis. There is no fee for this service. Sandbridge is 15 miles south of Virginia Beach’s famous boardwalk.


    The Little Island fishing pier is wheelchair accessible.
