The following information can help you prepare and make the most of your experience
at the Resort Beach.
  • Directions

    There's more than one way to get to the Resort area. In order to avoid congestion at the Oceanfront, take the I-264/Birdneck Road exit.

    Convenient street signs are displayed at the bottom of the exit ramp and will direct you to your desired Resort Area location.

  • Lifeguards

    Lifeguards are on duty from mid-May to late-September, between 1st through 41st Streets. From Memorial Day-Labor Day, their hours are 9:30am-dusk. The lifeguards operate on limited hours and with limited patrols in May and September.


    Lifeguards are on duty at Camp Pendleton and Croatan beaches from Memorial Day-Labor Day daily from 9:30am-dusk.


    Lifeguards are on duty on weekends only from Memorial Day to Labor Day at Fort Story from 9:30am-5:30pm.


    Lifeguards patrol the North End beaches (42nd-89th Streets) on all-terrain vehicles from 11am-5pm daily between Memorial Day and Labor Day.

  • Parking

    Street-side and garage parking information for the Resort area is available in a convenient interactive Virginia Beach access and parking map.

    Municipal parking lots are located on Atlantic Avenue at Rudee Loop and 4th Street, on Pacific Avenue at 19th and 25th Streets and at Croatan Beach. The lots charge a fee between April 1 and October 31. The maximum fee is $10 per day.

    Municipal parking garages are located between Atlantic and Pacific Avenues on 9th and 30th Streets. There is a fee year round. The maximum fee is $10 per day.

    Overnight parking is only available at the 9th Street Garage.


    Metered parking is available throughout the resort area. A fee of $1.50 is charged per hour from April 1 - October 31.


    Designated disabled on-street parking is available at Rudee Loop, 2nd, 6th, 7th, 10th, 11th, 12th, 14th, 15th, 16th, 20th, 22nd, 23rd, 24th, 25th, 26th, 30th, 33rd, 34th, 36th, 37th, 38th. Designated disabled off-street parking is available in all municipal lots.


    Buses and Recreational Vehicles can be accommodated in the 4th Street lot for $15 per day or $25 overnight. A Bus drop off with 15 minute parking is located on the northwest corner of 19th Street and Atlantic Avenue. Additional bus parking may be available at the Virginia Beach Convention Center.   • Restrooms

    Public restrooms are available at First Landing State Park.

  • Regulations

    Fires of any kind are not permitted on the beach.


    Skateboarding is not permitted on the Virginia Beach Boardwalk.


    Pets are not permitted on the public beaches, boardwalk or grassy area between the boardwalk and hotel property from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Pets are allowed under control in the residential area north of 42nd Street or south of Rudee Inlet after 6:00 p.m. and before 10:00 a.m. Airtight containers for cleanup must be carried and used at all times.


    Surfing restrictions are enforced from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day weekend. Surfers must wear a leash and surfing is prohibited within 30 feet of the shoreline. In the resort area (from Rudee Inlet to 42nd Street), surfing is not permitted from between the hours of 10am and 4pm on weekdays and 10am and 6pm on weekends and holidays except in designated surfing areas. Designated surfing areas are found at Rudee Inlet and between 4th and 5th Streets. At the North End (north of 42nd Street), surfing is not permitted between the hours of 11am and 4pm Friday-Sunday. Surfing is permitted all day Monday-Thursday. At Croatan Beach, surfing is not permitted between the hours of 11am and 4pm except in designated surfing areas. Additional surfing is available at Sandbridge Beach.

  • Accessibility

    The Virginia Beach Boardwalk is a concrete walkway that is accessible to individuals with varying degrees of mobility. Ramps are available at each street to take you from the Boardwalk to the sand. In addition, wooden walkways that take you from the ramp to the water's edge are available at 8th, 17th, 24th, and 30th Streets.


    Two beach wheelchairs are available on a first come, first serve basis from the beach attendants at 17th and 24th Streets. Visitors may borrow the wheelchair for a half day. If no one else has requested the chair, it may be kept for the remainder of the day. There is no charge for this service.


    Designated disabled on-street parking is available at Rudee Loop, 2nd, 6th, 7th, 10th, 11th, 12th, 14th, 15th, 16th, 20th, 22nd, 23rd, 24th, 25th, 26th, 30th, 33rd, 34th, 36th, 37th, 38th. Designated disabled off-street parking is available in all municipal lots.
