Explore the wonders of the Atlantic with more than 800,000 gallons of aquariums, live animal habitats
and over 300 interactive exhibits at the Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center. Restless Planet,
the Aquarium’s newest permanent exhibit, offers four unique landscapes that chronicle the geological
history that shaped Virginia as we see it today. Experience humid, damp environments and searing desert
heat and active volcanoes; learn of the path of water over land to the sea in the updated Journey of
Water. Restless Planet brings the Aquarium 6,000 new animals and 367 new species including Komodo dragons,
exotic cobras, and hedgehogs.
The Virginia Aquarium features two pavilions, an outdoor aviary, nature trail and a 3D IMAX® theater.
Get up close and personal with harbor seals during the Harbor Seal Splash where visitors get a
behind-the-scenes look at how the animals are trained, fed and cared for. Join Aquarium educators on a
dolphin or whale watching boat trip for a chance to watch these fascinating creatures in their natural
habitat.
The Virginia Aquarium is located just one mile south of the Virginia Beach resort area. Visitors to the
Aquarium can enjoy the 35 miles of beach, a 3-mile long boardwalk, 18,600 acres of state parks, and
sumptuous coastal cuisine to create their perfect beach vacation.
